Senior Center Accreditation Project
Healthy
Aging for seniors is one of United Way’s key focus areas. The United
Way Senior Center Accreditation Project helps senior centers earn accreditation
from the National Institute of Senior Centers, so that they meet standards
of excellence. We assist senior centers to earn accreditation by providing
staff technical assistance, technical assistance grants, and access to peer
learning and support. Out of the 22 accredited centers in Pennsylvania, United
Way was instrumental in helping 18 centers – or 90 percent – achieve
or maintain that status.
Accreditation is the official recognition that a senior center is meeting its mission in a nationally accepted professional fashion meeting standards of excellence in nine separate categories: Purpose, Community, Governance, Administration, Program Planning, Evaluation, Fiscal Management, Records & Reports, and Facilities.
