2010 Hometown Huddle

The Philadelphia Eagles and United Way partnered to build a new youth fitness zone at the George Pepper Middle School. The new fitness room was filled with weight training equipment including: a lat pull down, chest press and leg press machine for strength equipment. The room also includes several fitness games allowing the children to exercise and have fun.

Eagles quarterback Michael Vick and United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania President and CEO Jill Michal were in attendance to help unveil the new youth fitness zone. Vick also helped the students learn how to use their new fitness equipment.

The NFL/United Way Hometown Huddle is an NFL-wide day of service where NFL teams partner with United Way to volunteer their time in an effort to make a difference in NFL cities across the country.

This year’s Hometown Huddle marks the 37th Anniversary of United Way’s partnership with the NFL. Through advertising campaigns, volunteerism events and advocacy, the NFL has been a leader in the LIVE UNITED movement.

“The Eagles set a great example for their fans,” said Jill Michal, President and CEO of United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania. “The people in this region are as passionate about football as they are about keeping our communities strong and because of that United Way is able to help children, families and seniors to lead better lives.”

Following United Way’s lead to create lasting changes by addressing the underlying causes of problems, the NFL is working with United Way to leverage resources and relationships in an effort to raise awareness about the importance of youth health and fitness and to create opportunities for kids to lead healthier lifestyles.

The NFL knows the importance of teamwork when it comes to meeting goals and scoring touchdowns. By partnering with United Way and working to help communities large and small throughout the country, the NFL is inspiring hope and creating opportunities for a better tomorrow.
