Strong leadership is critical to the ability of nonprofit organizations to carry out their missions and their key roles in our society. Developing new nonprofit leaders can’t wait!

  • 640,000 new senior nonprofit managers will be needed in the next decade.
  • 75% of executive directors report that they are planning to step down in the next five years.
  • One in three executive directors is eventually fired or forced out of the job.
  • Only 29% of executive directors have discussed a succession plan with their boards of directors.
  • Finding and developing talented managers is the most common management challenge faced by nonprofits today.

Emerging Leaders Program

The application deadline is Friday, March 4, 2011. To apply, first complete the following registration form. Once this is submitted, the supervisor you have listed will be sent an automated email requesting a recommendation. You will receive a separate email with a link to log onto the full Emerging Leaders Application. Follow all prompts to upload and submit your Resume and Essay. Email notifications will be sent when you have completed all parts of the application and when your recommendation is received.

 

Eligibility Determination

(United Way of Southeastern Pennsylvania has a limited number of slots for the Emerging Leaders Program. Therefore, all applicants must meet the following criteria in order to be considered for participation in the program.)

I currently work in a program or project management position in the health and human services field.
I have served in a supervisory capacity for 5 years or less.
I have never served in a senior or executive level position at a nonprofit.
I am currently under 40 years of age.
I work for a Non Profit Organization that provides service within UWSEPA’s 4 county region (Philadelphia, Montgomery, Chester, Delaware)
I am able to attend a minimum of 5 out of the 6 scheduled workshop sessions (refer to Workshop Schedule for dates and times)
